Telemarketing Scams

When it comes to telemarketing calls, not all are legitimate. Individuals and businesses are ripped off every year through telemarketing scams. These types of calls can come in many forms and are usually similar to the same techniques used by legitimate telemarketing companies. There are ways to avoid these calls altogether and it's important to know what to look for to determine whether or not they are fraudulent. Knowing how to report these calls to the authorities can save you a lot of time and money.

Caller ID is the best defense against any telemarketing calls, whether fraudulent or legitimate. If you have caller ID, then the first thing you should do is plug in everyone's number you know who may be calling you, if the mechanism allows you to work that way. Otherwise, it is a good idea to keep a list of companies you know and trust next to the phone along with their numbers, so you can see if you are receiving a telemarketing call. Another way to keep up with telemarketing scams is to simply check locally to see which new ones are out there and how they work.

For some people, avoiding telemarketing scams is extremely difficult. They don't have caller ID and are just too polite to hang up on someone. However, there is a time to be polite and there is a time to be rude. If a telemarketer gets you on the phone and won't take no for an answer, then it's time to hang up. If the telemarketing calls continue, then ask for the caller's name, the company's name, their customer service phone number and more. If they are legitimate, then they will give the information to you. But, just to be extra careful, it's a good idea to check the company or charity with the Better Business Bureau to be absolutely sure they are not practicing any type of fraud.

An excellent way to protect yourself against fraud is to simply never give out any personal information over the phone to a company you've never heard of or don't trust. If the company has information about you, for example a bank or charity you signed up for, then they should already know it and be able to repeat it back to you. If you know for sure the company is not legitimate and runs telemarketing scams, then you should try to get as much information as you can about the company or charity and then hang up and call local law enforcement, or federal if warranted, so they can stop telemarketers practicing fraud in their tracks.

Today's Tip On Telemarketing

It is hard for a lawyer or doctor to survive, if they do not have answering services, which provide the benefit of having a person answer their calls. There are many benefits to having your call answered by a live person. Doctors and lawyers usually use these services, even though they are available to all. Somebody live is always available to you no matter when you call. If a doctor is required to return the call immediately, then he or she can be called on their cell phone. The doctor's cell phone number remains private, because call center services were used.
